Balancing school, extracurriculars, and everything else in between is the normal life of a college student, but this year has been even more challenging with the pandemic. On top of her busy schedule, Bailey Mruzik has been able to compete with the Track & Field team this season. The passionate student-athlete chose to focus her Communication Arts & Sciences Capstone project on the small group of distance runners at Adrian College, who have positively impacted her life, amongst the pandemic.
This week, we interviewed Bailey Mruzik on her capstone project and her favorite things about the Communication Arts & Sciences program at Adrian College.
What is your capstone topic and why did you choose it?
My capstone topic focuses on the Adrian distance running team. I chose this because I am on the cross country and track team and being a distance runner is something that can be very strenuous and time consuming. I don’t feel like the team gets as much exposure as we should for all of the hard work we put in, and it is a team on campus that is definitely in the process of building and becoming something very special.
You work with Adrian College TV, tell us about your role and responsibilities with them. What is your favorite part about working with ACTV?
For ACTV, I work as a director, sideline reporter, and play-by-play commentator. My favorite thing about working for ACTV is getting the broadcasting experience I need for my future career. I also love all of the amazing and talented people I have had the opportunity to work with!
What kind of opportunities has the Communication Arts & Sciences department and faculty given you to help you grow in your field?
In the Communications department, I have been able to work hands on with any production equipment whenever I desire, so that has really helped me grow. Also, the professors in the department always have open doors and are willing to look at my projects and offer valuable feedback on them.

What has been your favorite class in the Communications department so far?
My favorite class in the communications department so far has been Mass media criticism with Dr. Christy because it has given me such a different perspective on many different types of media.
What is your dream job/plans for after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to work in the broadcasting industry as a news anchor. The goal later in life is to work at a big station.
